Before launching our main campaign, Models Against Malaria (MAM) conducted a pre-outreach visit to Ajegunle–Ikorodu. This visit also served as a survey to better understand the living conditions of the residents. The survey was successful, as it allowed us to directly engage with the community and identify their major challenges. Findings revealed that residents were highly vulnerable to malaria due to the poor state of their environment.
Main Outreach Campaign
Following the survey, preparations were made for a full-scale anti-malaria outreach, which was held on November 9, 2019. Unfortunately, on arrival we found the community in an even more difficult situation—severe flooding had submerged many homes after heavy rainfall. With no proper drainage and lack of access to clean water, several apartments were flooded, forcing families, including young children, to remain outside. In addition to increased mosquito breeding, these conditions exposed residents to the heightened risk of other waterborne diseases.
Support and Partnerships
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to MOZZI Africa for their timely intervention through vector control initiatives, providing materials for indoor residual spraying and essential anti-malaria products to protect families. We also recognize Paints and Coatings Manufacturers Nigeria Plc (PCMN) for their generous support with a wide range of Mozzi products.
Community Response
The residents expressed great joy and relief during the outreach, especially as we presented families with thoughtful gifts alongside our health interventions.
