Models Against Malaria (MAM) and its dedicated team of professional models and volunteers once again visited the historic town of Badagry, continuing their ongoing efforts to advocate for and educate communities about malaria.

Malaria remains a significant public health concern in Nigeria, which records more cases and deaths from the disease than any other country in the world. The founder of MAM, Mr. Michael Iyoha, highlighted the serious impact of malaria in Nigeria, noting that it contributes to approximately 11% of maternal mortality and accounts for over 30% of hospitalizations among children under five years of age.

The campaign in Badagry, proudly supported by the National Malaria Elimination Programme under the Federal Ministry of Health, was a resounding success. During the event, treated mosquito nets and various gifts were distributed to the community members. The team also emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean environment, stressing that the fight against malaria is a collective responsibility.

As part of MAM’s mission to educate the public about malaria, the team guided the Badagry community on the importance of engaging in activities such as regular environmental sanitation, proper waste disposal, and eliminating stagnant water to prevent mosquito breeding.

The campaign further underscored the critical role of maintaining a sanitized environment and the necessity of sleeping under treated mosquito nets. The community was informed that mosquitoes, which thrive in unclean environments, not only cause malaria but can also spread other diseases like yellow fever and the Zika virus.
