A PRE-OUTREACH VISIT TO LAGOS’ MOST POPULAR SLUM
Owode-Ajegunle, Ikorodu is one of the toughest and mosquito infested slum in Lagos state. Living in slum areas has not been the best experience for the inhabitants who will gladly trade places with those living in urban areas in order to have better social amenities and decent environment.
Life is not easy for many of the residents in this community. They have to adapt to the absence of drinkable water, poor health care and healthy environment. A slum with a large population, where residents are prompt to malaria parasite. There are lots of malaria cases reported in this area due to the inability of the residence to adopt cleanliness and healthy communal lifestyle.
As part of our continuous effort to highlight health cases around the continent, Model Against Malaria is taking the responsibility to reach out to the people in this community, meeting their health and social need in order to #endmalaria in the region. According to the Leader & Ruler of Owode-Ajegunle community and some of the residents we interviewed, children in the community are mostly affected by malaria and the parents of these children spend lots of money in attempt to treat malaria. While they struggle to meet their daily needs, they equally struggle against malaria. The Community leader while discussing with MAM team, pleads to the government, organizations, stakeholders, individuals to come to their aid, so that ending malaria in their community can be achieved.
On this note, Models Against Malaria has scheduled 21st of September, 2019 to carry out a community outreach in Ajegunle, Ikorodu, Lagos. During our visit, we intend to provide the community with the following;
